BREAKING NEWS:

This morning just prior to 7am the PamBayesian team were advised by none other than Dr Charles Friedman, considered by many to be the father of LHS, that the third article in our series on Learning Health Systems (LHS) has been accepted for publication in the journal founded by Dr Friedman, the Journal of Learning Health Systems.

The article entitled “A framework for analysing Learning Health Systems: Are we removing the most impactful barriers?” (pre-publication PDF) brings together research into the barriers, benefits and facilitators (BBF) that can impede or promote implementations of health information technology. In it we present a novel adaptation of the ITPOSMO framework for analysing success and failure in IT implementations that we call ITPOSMO-BBF, using it to demonstrate that many of the challenges that inhibited implementations of electronic health records over the last 30 years are being revisited as they impede adoption of LHS.

This article represents the culmination of 18 months work by PamBayesian PDRA Scott McLachlan and the group of collaborators he brought together from five universities across three countries.

Well done team!
